In August 21 and 22 of 2021 the 89th edition of the 24 hours of Le Mans was held. This was a special one, because it marks a historical win for Argentina: Jose Maria “Pechito” Lopez emerged victorious with the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing team, alongside Mike Conway (England) and Kamui Kobayashi (Japan). This is the second time someone from Argentina wins this event, afterJosé Froilán González winning the 1954 edition with Ferrari.

This amazing feat inspired me to illustrate the Toyota GR010 HYBRID #7 driven by the winning trio to take the prize home after 371 laps and 24 rough hours of pure skill, might, attention and endurance.

The second place in this race was for the Toyota GR010 HYBRID #8 driven by Sebastian Buemi (Switzerland), Kazuki Nakajima (Japan) and Brendon Hartley (New Zealand) who took the first place in the race the year before.

It goes without saying that the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing team is doing an excellent work with these cars, as these results show, and I can’t wait to see how this continues.

About the illustration:

The illustration itself was made in Affinity Designer and was created using a combination of my distinct two styles from my latest art pieces: the more comic-like style from the Fiat Abarth 131 rally as well as the classic cel shaded style of the Porsche 917k - Gulf Livery.

To top that out, I went a bit above and beyond with some new techniques at the end of the illustration, where I added more texture and detail within the pixel persona. This let me achieve a much more “raster-like” look while staying around 95% in vector art, which to me is a good compromise.
